Purpose & Goal
To worship Christ the Lord in Spirit and in Truth by obeying his commandments, and by being a good example to the younger generation in our community; to minister unto the children of God through different means of worship and praise; to bring together youths in the church through fellowship in a well-structured Christian environment; to learn and follow the teachings of our elders in order to assure the future of the church.
The principle function of this ministry is to nurture or care to the youth in a manner that will help each youth member grow spiritually and become independent in the faith with Jesus Christ. This ministry is responsible to create a plan that will help the young people to grow spiritually, socially, and emotionally.
1 – Spiritual Growth: SYM will help them grow spiritually by getting them to develop an interest in the Bible readings and studies, in prayer (personal and corporate), in evangelism, and in being involved in the other spiritual activities of the church.
2 – Social Growth: SYM will help them grow socially by helping them understand their social, cultural, and intellectual context. SYM is responsible to create a few programs that will be fit in their context and they have to feel a sense of ownership and belonging in these programs.
3 – Emotional Growth: SYM will help them to grow emotionally by creating programs with the help of special guest speakers and materials in order to meet their emotional and psychological needs (Crisis Management, Depression, Suicidal, etc…).
Requirements/Qualification
Shiloh Youth members must be committed to learning the word of God through the activities of the youth and through personal quiet time. Members must be fully committed to any ministry he/she is a part of. It is necessary that members take part, if possible, in activities held by any other ministry of the church. Shiloh Youth members are required to love one another, fellowship with, and help each other any way possible. Members are required to portray God by maintaining good attitudes towards other members of the church and being good examples to non-Christians.
Shiloh Youth Committee members must meet the descriptions that are stated in these verses: 1 Timothy 3; 4:12; 2 Timothy 2:15; and Titus 1:6-9. In addition to these verses, the members of the youth committee must also live their lives according to the following biblical texts:
Ephesians 4:1 – Do your best to live a life worthy of your calling
Ephesians 4:30 – Do not grieve the Spirit of God which is in you
1 Corinthians 6:19 – Your body is the temple of God and you are not your own
Romans 12:1 – Accept to offer your bodies as living sacrifices to God
Romans 12:2 – You cannot be conformed to the pattern of this world
2 Corinthians 6:14-15 – Do not be yoked (bound) together with unbelievers
2 Corinthians 6:17 – Come out from them (the world of unbelievers) and be separate
1 Corinthians 2:16 / Philippians 2:5 – Put on similar mind and attitude that were in Christ
Colossians 3:2 – Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things
Philippians 4:8 – Set your mind on whatever is true, noble, pure, admirable, praiseworthy…
Ephesians 6:1-2 – You must Honor your father and mother
Youth Committee
PRESIDENT/LEADER
The youth leader must be mature in the faith and gospel of Christ. They must have a natural spiritual love for young people, carry a natural burden for the youths in their struggles, understand their spiritual-cultural-social-educational context, be able to relate with them well, and possess a servant heart to serve them. The youth leader is charged to become a “Mentor/Counselor” to the youths and also charged to exercise his/her “Leadership Skills” in order to promote “Ministry Placements” to the members.
Leadership Skills and Ministry Placements:
Finally, the youth leader is responsible to guide the young people in becoming the future leaders of the church, by helping them to recognize their gifts, their strengths and weaknesses, and by helping them to develop leadership skills. He/she is responsible to propose conferences, weekend camps, summer trips, and any other activities that are moral and spiritual, which will create an interest in them and help in assimilation to the church family.
VICE PRESIDENT / ASSISTANT LEADER:
The assistant leader is a collaborator of the leader by being a helper to all the responsibilities of the leader; he/she is responsible to live an exemplified life just like the leader; he/she is responsible to replace the leader at his/her absence and fulfill all the functions of the leader; in case of resignation (voluntary or involuntary) or in case of death, he/she automatically becomes the leader.
SECRETARY & ASST SECRETARY:
The secretary is responsible to keep the minutes of each meeting; he/she has to keep the archives of the ministry; he/she must update the absentees of their tasks; he/she is liable to contact the members (word of mouth, phone, or by email) to remind them of the meetings, times and places.
TREASURER & ASST TREASURER:
The treasurer is responsible to keep all the financial records and financial administration of the ministry; he/she has to plan and propose a yearly budget for events such as: Conferences and Seminars, Camps, Retreats, Trips, Concerts and Misc.; he/she has to motivate the youths to contribute and create fund raising activities such as but not limited to: Bake Sales, Concerts, Car Wash, Coffee Night, etc…; he/she has to work in collaboration with the church treasurer.
GATE KEEPER(S):
The gatekeeper is responsible to make sure that the group is going in the right direction and making the right decisions; he/she is responsible to help and counsel all the leaders; he/she is there as a veteran to share his/her experience on what to do and what not to do.
PUBLIC RELATIONS LEADER:
The public relations leader is responsible to manage all communications about Shiloh youth events to other associated youth ministries through visual communication, internet, letters, posters, flyers, etc.” He/she must keep record of contact information for the leaders of youth ministries associated with Shiloh; he/she keeps track of all events (internal or external) in order for the youth to take part in them.
EVENT COORDINATOR:
He/she must always prepare and form an outline for each youth event and have the outline prepared for the youth committee meeting at least a month in advance. Where they committee will be able to discuss and edit the plans for the event. This person must always be aware of the youth as well the church calendar, along with all the events that are approaching.
OUTREACH:
The responsibilities of this person are to interact and keep in touch with the new, old, as well as current members of Shiloh Youth, especially when they are in need: including illness, death in the family, or moral support. They must also form new ideas on ensuring that all members are engaged and involved in every youth activity. Furthermore, this youth leader will work hand in hand with the church’s welcoming committee. This person is also responsible to welcome guest youth ministries/ministers visiting Shiloh. Lastly, they must find creative ways to spread the gospel as a youth ministry in the surrounding community.
COUNSELORS:
The youth leader is responsible to disciple to the young people so that they can become independent, he/she must become a mentor or counselor to them. They must feel at ease to approach the youth leader as a friend who is there for them in whatever situation they fall into. The youth leader must be able to help and guide them in making different types of decision in life. They are to be helped and guided in making spiritual decisions (conversion, baptism, etc.). They are to be helped in making career decisions, such as choosing a profession, choosing a college, and choosing campus or stay at home with parents. They are to be helped in making sentimental decisions, such as guidance in managing their hormones, in choosing a boyfriend, in delaying sexual gratification. Finally, they are to be helped and guided in building the fear of omniscient, omnipresent God, to have a high respect for the authority of the Bible, and to honor their parents.
